Passports

A valid passport is required for U.S. travelers visiting Mexico. If yours is expired, missing, damaged, or expiring close to April 2027, start the process early.

Current U.S. passport turnaround estimates are:

  • Routine: 4 to 6 weeks
  • Expedited: 2 to 3 weeks
  • Urgent travel: appointment required if traveling internationally within 14 calendar days

These estimates do not include mailing time. The State Department notes that it may take up to 2 weeks for your application to arrive and up to 2 weeks to receive your passport after it is mailed back.
