Our Story

“How long is forever?” — Alice

Michael & Angelia

It started with a grounded flight.

What was supposed to be a simple trip to Atlanta turned into a rental car, a group of stranded strangers, a twelve-hour drive, and one unforgettable beginning neither of us saw coming.

“Sounds like the start of a love story.”

The Grounded Flight

Everything stopped at O’Hare.

Angelia was headed to a music festival in Atlanta when air traffic control issues grounded the airport. Departure boards turned red, crowds gathered, and her simple weekend plan quickly fell apart.

She called her mother and made her case for renting a car and driving herself. Her mother was not convinced.

Absolutely not.

02
The Stranger Next To Her

Then Michael spoke up.

The man sitting beside her had overheard the conversation. Almost apologetically, he turned and said:

“This is weird, but I already rented a car. You can come with me if you want.”

She said yes before she asked his name. By every normal standard, it was a reckless decision. But somehow, it felt right.

03
The Family Group Chat

The phone calls started immediately.

First her mother. Then cousins. Then aunts. Word traveled fast, and the verdict was unanimous: Angelia had lost her mind.

To calm everyone down, she asked Michael for his ID, took a photo, and sent it to her mother. Michael also invited a few other stranded travelers to join the ride so everyone would feel safer and split the rental cost.

By the time they reached the rental car shuttle, they had become a small, nervous road-trip expedition.

04
The Shuttle Stranger

Someone saw the story before they did.

On the shuttle to the rental car counter, a stranger looked at Michael and Angelia and asked how long they had been together.

They looked at each other and said, “We just met.”

“Sounds like the start of a love story.”

They laughed. It felt like a sweet, corny airport comment. He had no idea how right he would be.

05
The Drive Down

Chicago to Atlanta with strangers.

The drive was long, the car was full, and the conversation stayed light: festival plans, snacks, logistics, and the usual small talk of people who had suddenly ended up on the same adventure.

When they arrived in Atlanta, Michael made another unexpected offer:

“Keep the rental. Pick me up on Monday and I’ll drop you off at the airport.”

Practical reason? He did not have a parking pass. Real reason? He wanted to see her again.

06
The 10% Battery Text

One message before the phone died.

By Sunday, Michael was deep in the festival crowd, exhausted and running on fumes, when he noticed his phone was at 10%.

He texted Angelia. She replied with her festival agenda. He typed back — and then his phone died.

That should have been the end of it.

07
The Crowd

Out of thousands of people, there he was.

Later that day, in the middle of a massive festival crowd, Angelia turned around and casually told her friends:

“Hey, look — it’s the guy I drove down with.”

Out of pure, ridiculous coincidence, they had found each other again.

08
The Sunrise Decision

One more yes.

On the last night of the festival, Angelia’s friends decided they were definitely missing their Greyhound bus. Angelia had a flexible buddy pass flight, so the plan changed again.

Yes again. Yes still.

They would ride back to Chicago with Michael.

09
The Drive Home

That is when the real conversation started.

Angelia’s friends fell asleep almost immediately in the back seat, leaving Michael and Angelia with twelve hours of open road and nothing but each other.

The conversation started with where they were from and became something much bigger. They talked about family, plans, stories, and the kind of lives they wanted to build.

Somewhere between Atlanta and Chicago, the shuttle stranger’s prediction stopped feeling like a coincidence and started feeling like a forecast.

10
The Rest Is History

The road led here.

They have been together ever since. There have been more flights, more road trips, more layovers, and more adventures — but none as unlikely or as inevitable as the one that started it all.

In April 2027, they are inviting their favorite people to the Riviera Maya to celebrate where the road has led them.

To the shuttle stranger, wherever he is: thank you. You called it.
